Douglas Fairbanks, a swashbuckling icon of the silent film era, was born Douglas Elton Thomas Ullman on May 23rd, 1883, in Denver, Colorado, USA. Fairbanks’ charisma and athleticism made him a star. He was known for performing his own stunts in action-packed adventure films, often playing roles with a sense of lighthearted chivalry. Fairbanks’ influence on Hollywood is undeniable. He co-founded United Artists alongside Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford and even hosted the very first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929. Sadly, Fairbanks passed away following a heart attack on December 12th, 1939, in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 56.
