Mel Blanc, the man behind countless iconic cartoon characters, was born Melvin Jerome Blanc on May 30th, 1908, in San Francisco, California. Nicknamed “The Man of a Thousand Voices,” Blanc’s true talent lay in his remarkable vocal range and ability to breathe life into animated figures. His career spanned over six decades, with his most recognizable work coming during the Golden Age of Animation. Blanc voiced a staggering number of characters for Warner Bros., including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester the Cat, Tweety Bird, and many more. He also lent his voice to characters for Hanna-Barbera Productions and commercials, forever changing the landscape of animation and leaving a lasting legacy on popular culture. Mel Blanc passed away in Los Angeles, California, on July 10th, 1989.
